Who We Are

Social Justice Human Right Foundation

The Social Justice Human Right Foundation (SJHRF) is a non-profit, non-governmental, non-political organisation dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights, social justice, and the welfare of marginalised communities across India.

Incorporated in 2018 and registered under the Maharashtra Societies Registration Act, SJHRF operates from its head office at Mumbra, Thane, with a growing network of members spread across multiple districts of Maharashtra.

Our foundation believes that access to justice, quality education, healthcare, and legal aid are not privileges — they are fundamental rights of every Indian citizen. We work tirelessly to bridge the gap between these constitutional guarantees and the lived reality of the most vulnerable sections of our society.

Our Story

Our History

The story of SJHRF began in the bustling lanes of Mumbra — a community that embodies the rich diversity of Maharashtra, yet faces profound challenges of poverty, lack of legal awareness, and limited access to quality services.

2018

Foundation Established

SJHRF was formally registered under the Societies Registration Act in Maharashtra by a group of social workers, lawyers, and educators committed to human rights and social justice.

2019

Legal Aid Clinic Launch

Launched our first free legal aid clinic in Mumbra serving 50 beneficiaries in the inaugural month, providing vital legal advice to the community.

2020

COVID-19 Relief Operations

During the pandemic, SJHRF distributed essential food kits, medicines, and hygiene supplies to over 5,000 families in Thane and Mumbai, partnering with local government bodies.

2021

12A & 80G Certification

Received 12A and 80G certification under the Income Tax Act, making all donations tax-exempt. Membership crossed 500 mark. Launched women empowerment workshop series.

2022

Health Camp Expansion

Launched mobile health unit program, conducting quarterly multi-speciality camps across Thane district. Total beneficiaries crossed 20,000. Partnered with Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority.

2023

Education & Scholarship Launch

Launched merit-cum-means scholarship program for girl students. Opened three free coaching centres in Mumbra, Bhiwandi, and Kalyan.

2024

Skill Development Centre

Inaugurated a dedicated Skill Development Centre in Mumbra offering courses in tailoring, computer skills, and beauty care for unemployed youth.

2025

National Recognition & Growth

Members crossed 2,000. Received state-level recognition for contribution to human rights. Expanded operations to Raigad and Nashik districts.

2026

SJHRF Today

Today, SJHRF stands tall as one of the most active NGOs in Thane district, serving over 56,000 beneficiaries with a dedicated team of professionals and members committed to the cause of social justice.

To protect and promote the constitutional rights and fundamental freedoms of every Indian citizen through free legal aid, community mobilisation, awareness campaigns, education, healthcare, and strategic partnerships with government agencies.

At SJHRF, we do not merely write letters and hold seminars about human rights — we go into the streets, the villages, and the courts to make those rights real for people who have been systematically excluded from justice.

Our journey has taught us that change is possible when ordinary people come together with extraordinary conviction. Whether it was reaching flood-affected families in 2020, helping a widow recover her property rights, or ensuring a first-generation student received her scholarship — every action reinforces why we do this work.

I am immensely proud of our team — our volunteers, our legal professionals, our health workers, and our members — who give their best every day, often asking nothing in return. It is their commitment that fuels this organisation.
